A registration runs for the period you pay for, usually one year at a time. Renew it before it expires to keep the domain: after expiry and a short grace period, anyone can register it.
Some registries set a lower price for the first year. The renewal price in the table is what you pay for each following year, so you can compare the real long-term cost.
